I am so SICK of hearing how OSSE has messed things up. Enough already. The OSSE model is set up to obfiscate. The staff turnover every year or so is a recipe for further disaster. ITA there should be an education committee of the Council or some kind of beefed up oversight for SBOE or DME. Something, or someone (Hosanna or D'Shawn), has gotta go.

The expanded/higher quality pre-k programs through multiple types of providers (public schools, early childhood only charters, daycares, etc) law made total sense to me at the time. It was a huge coalition across the city, incl public schools (yes Rhee and Gray were united on this) and private funders.

How do you [bleep] that up? Put OSSE in charge.

What's it going to take to change DCMR to lower the age of DCPS enrollment from kindergarten to pre-k and use the underenrolled schools east of the river to provide better quality where it's needed most.

I agree that universal pre-K is needed; I don't like the lord of the flies, limited slots at in boundary schools, sigh of relief if your child is one of the 'lucky' ones etc.

The city says there's universal pre-K in DC, but is that your experience? Have you had a 3- or 4-year old that you couldn't get into a public pre-K program? The city's own auditor says we haven't reached universal pre-K. I researched this topic with a colleague for 6 weeks and we were shocked at what we learned.
