OP, most likely you're not in the running, but the firm is waiting until the whole process is complete with the top choice - this means negotiation, agreement, possibly final approval by the government if it's a contract position. All of that can take months, especially if they spent weeks interviewing people after you. Once it's a done deal with the other candidate, they'll let you know. In the meantime, assume they don't want you, which seems to be stating the obvious. Sorry.

1233 again- They just called and offered me the position- they were apologetic about taking so long and I would guess I was not their first choice- they decided to split the position into 2 part time, which suits me well. I am guessing the 1st choice wanted part time. But I got the job!

As others have said, it could be a lot of things. I would definitely try follow up, somehow, someway. Not obnoxiously - my first try would e to see if I have any connections to the office via my connections, and have people ask for me (I work in a smallish field, so there are often friends of friends I can pull on). If I really connected with the interviewer, I might 1) send an email reiterating my interest or 2) find something that's relevant to the job or industry and forward along with a note that said I thought this might be of interest because.....(something pertinent, obviously). I may call HR, though I think they're less likely to give you info.

Well, you never know. I interviewed for my current position and didn't hear back for about three months. I got the job.

Why not call and inquire as to the status of the hiring process? If nothing else, it shows that you're interested. For all they know, you are fending off other offers while waiting to hear from them!

Thanks all. It's not the feds but is a public agency (county). I'm still hopeful they are just slow...lol.

OP, I think it really depends on where your interview was. If it was for the feds, for example, they take forever to do anything. Otherwise, I would say it does not look good. You are probably either second choice and they are waiting to firm up the offer with their first choice candidate, or you simply were not chosen and they suck as a company, and haven't notified you yet (extremely, inexcusably rude, IMO).

If it makes you feel better- Im in the same boat. After reading these replies, it doesnt look great and I think I wont follow up (I did send a thank you emphasizing my interest). They said the next step was having candidates shadow and that was going to be 2 weeks ago. So I guess its a no go...
I would hope they'd follow up with a definitive no though, to the other people they interviewed.

They do send letters, but if they are looking to make a decision in about 3 weeks, chances are the letters won't start coming till week 6-7. But by then the candidate who got the job definitely knows they did.

I recently went through the same thing, I would certainly email or call to check in at this point to show you're still interested. In my situation though, they kept me hanging for 7 weeks and then offered the job to someone else. So hopefully you will have better luck!

I interviewed for a job almost 6 weeks ago. During the interview (which went well I thought), the person in charge said they would be deciding in 2-3 weeks. I promptly sent my thank yous after the interview but have heard nothing. Now what? Do I email and check in? I SOOO want this job. Thanks for any advice.
