Trash removal? Someone is finally removing my trash neighbors? Awesome!

Re trash removal: find out first what company your neighbors use. We live on a cul de sac and have the trash trucks down our street and trash cans out 6 times a week because 3 companies service the cul de sac. I have had both and see both and I like AAA much better than American. Call AAA and they'll match Americans price.

We are in McLean inside the Beltway. City of Falls Church supplies water, and we arranged for American Disposal to pick up trash after hearing it was cheaper than AAA.

It was not a problem, and we otherwise are much happier in McLean than I think we would be in Arlington, where the lots are smaller.

pp here for water call Falls Church water, if they don't service your address, they will tell you who does.

My properties in Mclean have the trash picked up by the county. It is paid for in our RE taxes.

OP, sorry to hear. BTDT. Hope you have nicer neighbors than we did. Fairfax county is completely unhelpful, it is too big to manage. The locals try to brag about Fairfax County this and that, but its laughable. It should be broken down into manageable pieces, or at least hire people who care. The people I know would never brag about living in Fairfax County. In fact, 30 years later, they still say they are from their hometown, where they grew up, because well...it's nicer. Cue the hostile locals.

Anyway, try one of the 2 PP mentioned and go from there. You may notice neighbors two streets over have no trash/leaf removal service, it is arbitrarily divided. You will also notice no sidewalks and minimal public safety - fear of change! Arlington has made leaps and strides in this area. Why did you leave, just curious? McLean, to most people I know, leaves much to be desired. This is not out of jealousy, as we have (old, not new) properties there.

OP, I felt the same way when we moved from Arlington to Mclean so ignore the previous posters. The two most common services I see are American and AAA. We started with AAA b/c that's what our neighbors used but switched to American b/c they gave us a better deal. I know there's a couple more out there. Ideally you'd want someone that comes twice a week (at least it helps when you are initially moving in and for parties, etc. plus the odd time we forget we know they'll be back in a few days). Also a change will be yard waste requires different bagging procedures than in Arlington and say goodbye to the vacuum truck for leaves. Remind me why we left Arlington??

We were also confused about this when we first moved to McLean. Just call the number on the Fairfax county website and they'll tell you what to do - their website isn't very helpful and is somewhat confusing.

I would think your realtor would provide you with all that basic info?

We are moving from Arlington to McLean and I can't seem to get my hands around organizing trash/water services. in Arlington you call the government and it's done. In McLean it seems there is a mix of private and goverment companies who do this. The Fairfax website was totally unhelpful.

Advice please?
