Thank you PPs. Lol, I know the Chipotle you speak of...they must really do a brisk business at lunch. I can see how the open lunch novelty might wear off. DS is coming from a school with closed lunch, so he may enjoy the freedom at least initially.
On free periods, he's used to having some in his current school due to block scheduling where classes are longer but don't meet every day. I guess this will be an adjustment, but I'm sure it's not going to be too big of a dea.
Regarding laptops, thanks for the info. My son's current school requires the kids to have laptops, so he's used to taking all of his notes that way. On the other hand, the hassle of stolen electronics and/or seeming too "nerdy" or strange if he's only one of a handful of kids with them makes we wonder if he should do without?
Friending kids on FB at WJ sounds like a good idea -- I will suggest it too him. I know my older son did this with college -- friending kids that summer before arrival -- and I think he found it very helpful. Hopefully by younger son won't think it's too "weird" to take the initiative.
