What is the iphone hotspot?

I have the 64G model and have it maxed out already, but we have a ton of apps, including a lot of ebooks (kids) and magazines that take up a lot of space. I got the wi-fi version and I use it with the hotspot on my iPhone when I'm on the road. The hotspot with Verizon didn't require a contract - I can cancel it at any time.

Wow, you guys must be storing A LOT on your iPads. 32g is more than enough for me, but we have music on other computers.

I just bought and went for the 32G. I looked at what they had stored on the store iPad and it only took up 7G.
I did get the 4G capable (Verizon version) because I wanted the option. I don't have to sign up for it, and when I do I don't pay every month, just the 30-day periods where I use it, so I felt like I wasn't going to be paying a lot for no use, but like having the ability. I have a Touch and often find I want to use it when there is no Wi-fi available. This may depend on lot on personal circumstance. My mothers house in PA, for example, has no internet access at all, and its sometimes a hassle!

Unless you know it's something he wants dont buy it for him. Get him what he wants. Buy yourself the iPad. This happened to me for Christmas. I told DH I wanted the new iPhone for months. He asked me for my Christmas list and it was the only thing on it. I unwrap my gift Christmas morning...no iPhone. What did I get.....wait for it...Gourmet Popcorn. WTH. The next morning I was at the store bright and early and bought the phone for myself. Now....he wants it. Tough nuggies!!!

I cant hardly use my iPad...my DD is always watching Tom and Jerry on it, playing angry birds or that damn water alligator game (which is addicting...btw)....

I agree about getting more memory. We are constantly bumping up against the upper levels with games/music/apps, and have to negotiate about what to take off the iPad (and save on the computer). When we bought the iTouch, a few months after we bought the iPad, I made sure to get the higher memory version.

We have whatever the lowest memory level is and I wish we'd bought one with more. Is 32 GB the second highest level? If yes, I'd go with that. Also, if you or he travel at all, i say splurge for the 4G version. We didn't and we regret it. You only have to pay for service when you want it, so it's not like you're paying 365 days of the year and only traveling 10 of those.

I would go with the 32GB model if you don't have any particular reason for the 64GB model. I also wouldn't get the 4G version if you don't have a specific need for it. My wife bought the wifi version because she knew that 99.9% of the time she would be using it at locations where wifi was available.

As for whether it is a passive-aggressive gift, that's really up to you. You mentioned that you have wanted one, but you didn't say if he'd given any indication that he also wanted one. If you foresee that you might end up using it far more often than he would, then it probably isn't the best idea for a gift.

I'm thinking about buying DH an Ipad for fathers day. Looking for some feedback:

--What size? I'm deciding between the 64GB or 32GB. Any thoughts on whether the 64GB is overkill? He has a decent sized music collection, and may enjoy streaming videos. He's kind of internet 2.0, so no icloud use or anything like that.

-- 4G capability or no? He is a bit cheap so I feel like he would never use the 4G anyway since it'd be on top of his current cell plan.

Also, thoughts on whether this is a Passive-aggressive gift: I have strongly hinted that I've wanted an ipad for months now. For Mothers Day, I was sort of hoping to get one, and he did get me a great and thoughtful gift but not an ipad. We've talked about getting generally for facetime with grandparents etc. (Although I gather these are not really "family" items but more of a personal toy.). So I don't know if the gift is going to come across as PA or not.
