This. Our two Britax seats are 5 and 2 years old respectively--Boulevard and Frontier 85--and we love them. Never a single problem, issue, or complaint with either of them.

We have a Britax Marathon in one car and a Maxi-Cosi Pria in another. I wanted so much to love the Pria, but it sucks compared to the Marathon. The straps are always getting twisted and there's nothing to hold them out of the way when you're putting the kid in the seat like the velcro on the Marathon. Britax is just so much easier to install and get your kid into and out of than most other seats.

That healthy stuff rating is about the chemical components, not crash safety.

Consumer reports splits their convertible seat ratings into 2 listings... 40 or more than 40 lb seats. The cheapo cosco is the best scoring below 40, but the blvd is the best above and has a higher overall score as do the marathons. The roundabouts have the same overall score as the cosco seat. In their category, the britax seats have 5 of the top six seats.
Where are you seeing "bad" reviews?

The selling point for me, based on reviews from friends who had tried several brands, is that the Britax straps get twisted less and the seats are easier to buckle than some others. Depending on your vehicle, the Marathon, for example, can be hard to tighten when rear facing, which really bugs people.

But all the seats have changed since then, but there are no more safety ratings reports as far as I can tell. So everyone just keeps repeating "Britax is safest".

There are plenty of good seats for half the price. IF you end up with 2 kids x 2 cars, that's a lot of dough.

This. It was king 7-8 years ago, but many other brands have made improvements.

One thing to think about: 90% of all carseats are installed incorrectly. Some seats make proper installation much easier, and I believe Britax is one of them. That alone may be worth the price.

The plastic vs. steel is personal preference as of right now , I don't think one has been proven better. The plastics argue for flexibility and the steels argue for less of it in certain places on the frame. I think the presence of energy absorbing foam has been proven better than plastic or steel for protection.

but consumer reports has consistently ranked the costco one better..... Do they take into consideration the steel reinforcement? I cant tell...and this is the first time I have heard about this.

Some people like steel reinforced seats. Britax has a line of them, Graco has one or two, other brands have none.
