I don't understand why you can't keep clothes away from the cat. Can't you confine the cat to a single room in the house?
There really isn't anything she is doing that is so terrible. Why don't you contact your local humane socitety to ask for some advice on how to place her with a rescue organization or find her another home? It isn't like you need the cat to leave right this second, if it takes some time to find an appropriate placement, you can care for her in the meantime. I would not use craigslist, who knows who those people are or what they intend to do with the cat.

I think the first PP is loony. OP has had enough cats to know they all have different personalities and quirks so i dont think that is the problem.
I have cat who has a biting quirk... something will set her off periodically and she will full onattack me to the point i'm surprised she hasnt broken the skin yet, but has left bruises occasionally. As much as i love her, and as good a cat as she generally is (this forum has made me realize what a good cat she really is) there was a point where it got so bad i seriously considered getting rid of her but didnt. Instead i stared flicking water at her when she got in one of her moods and it only took 3-4 times of doing that before it got much much better. Maybe try keeping a spray bottle handy for the really bad behavior. The staring...meh...thats what cats do, esp when theyre content.

Cats stare at people. It's what they do. I don't understand why you would hate a cat or call her a bitch or evil for watching you. This is species-related behavior. Are you expecting her to gossip with you? I can't understand why people blame animals for behavior that is natural to that animal. If you want a dog, get a dog. Your cat is no more "feral" than any other cat.

Do you think that after years of dealing with this somebody wouldn't try to figure out solutions and try cat grass? The cat grass did not solve my problems, as she did not want anything to do with it. She wants clothes, preferentially jersey knits. Also, it doesn't make me an evil bitch to dislike my unlikeable cat (whom I take care of well, btw). And she doesn't just stare (I actually get that cats stare because I've had a handful growing up). She stares at you like she's plotting your violent death.

OP, if it makes you feel better, I must mutter to myself daily how much I hate my cat. I used to love him quite a bit, along with his brother who died suddenly this past year (I really loved the brother cat), but now this one just vomits up constantly and meows constantly.

Agree with the above. Also, if your cat attacks you or starts acting aggressively, try flicking her on the forehead, using your finger. It's a similar gesture to what a mother or dominating cat would use. They pick up on the message pretty quickly. Have you ever watched kittens playing with their mother? When she's had enough, she thumps them on the head with her paw, and they back-off. Discipline works best when you use instinctual methods.

You can be a cat person and have a cat that just isn't that great. My aunt had a cat who used to growl at visitors and sometimes attacked. I have a cat that is shy and sweet, but she gets in my face most nights and screams a MEOW until I wake up enough to pet her. (Seriously, I get less sleep in spades due to that cat. She's 9, so we have another, what? 10 years to go?) She also attacks the other cat all the time. We have to keep them separated at night or they'll just fight. The other cat is nice, good with kids, and is nonetheless a pain in the neck because she sometimes pees in inappropriate places (the stovetop, for example). As much as I enjoy having them around, if they were mean or scratched or bit us, that definitely would conclude their stay in our house. OP, I suggest you re-home your current cat and then, much later, consider adopting an adult cat.

Sorry OP. I love cats too, but it really sounds like this one doesn't mesh well with your family. How long have you had the cat? Sounds like it's been a few years? Perhaps you should have rehomed her as a kitten when it'd have been easier than suffering her company. I know it's a little too late for that thinking now. In any case, I think you should try to rehome her.

I love cats, generally. We always had one when I was growing up, and I loved all of them. However, I just hate the cat that currently lives inside our house.
We got her as a kitten from a rescue organization in the district when we first got married. She has always been more "feral" than any other cat that I've ever had and I guess you could say I had difficulty bonding with her from when she was a kitten. Quite frankly, she's a little b****. She is a gorgeous cat to look at but there is just absolutely nothing endearing about her. For instance, she tends to just sit and stare at us in an evil manner when we're trying to relax. She also has this habit of eating clothes (as in she's eaten whole t shirts). After years of trying to keep stuff away from her, she's still been able to ruin about a couple thousand dollars worth of clothing (belonging to me, the husband, and the kid). She also has this annoying habit of coming up to you and asking you to pet her and then biting or scratching you (not in a playful way). And then there's the two thousand dollar vet bill from the time that she ate a large metal bolt. A few minutes ago, I was sitting in my desk chair trying to do some work when she tried to jump in my lap, but clawed my vag instead.
Do I have to put up with this cat I hate for the rest of her natural life? I am fairly certain that being the feral thing that she is, she will live for at least 20 years more.
