Shop for W widths. It's annoying that the selection is smaller, but I am done putting up with shoes that are too tight at the front (if I get the 8 M) or fall off my heel (if I get the 8.5 M). The 8W is perfect.
Cramming your feet into tight toeboxes could well be aggravating the bunions.

OP here. Well, my shoes need to be a little bigger than what I believe I would normally wear (7 vs. 6.5) because I need a larger toe box to accommodate for wider feet where my bunions are. I think if I could wear a 6.5, my feet would not be slipping out of my dress shoes, but no thanks to Paul Bunions, I need the 7, which are apparently a little too big.

I recommended surgery. I did one foot at a time and had to wear a boot for about 6 weeks per surgery. I watched the surgeon propped up on my elbows - it was kind of fascinating watching yet not feeling a thing. I had no one helping, I was single at the time and seemed to manage just fine. Good luck! Wish I had better advice on your skinny heel problem!

OP here. Thanks so much for this suggestion! This is exactly what the heel grippers are doing to me...pushing my heels forward. And in my case, I have two heel pads in each shoe, so that's probably making the problem even worse.

For those who counsel bunion surgery...I am the OP of a recent thread asking for stories on the surgery...there were a lot of scary stories out there. But, it's still something I'm considering.

OP here. Sorry- just dress shoes for the most part, though I've started to notice it with some running shoes (a brand that has fit me for years).

I'd also say take care of the bunions.

I've had the surgery. It isn't that bad.

Change shoe brands. Stuart Weitzman generally fits me well, and I have narrow heels.

I apparently have skinny heels because they seem to be slipping out of my shoes. I have various kinds of heel grippers- usually doubled up in the heel- but to no avail. I can't really go down 1/2 size b/c I have bunions and my feet can't be squished there. Any other suggestions?
