He's going to lose. Obama is simply not leadership material. He is lazy . His ideology is infantile . Nobody in their right mind would follow him into battle. He is uncoordinated . He doesn't understand the revolutionary concepts of limited government, capitalism , personal property, the protection of the individual to pursue happyness without busybodies interference. Nobody even listens to his droning, incoherent , TelePrompTer blather anymore... It's mind-numbing. Obama is a awful leader and the country will vote for a new day.

point is you got some who believe that regardless of the state of the economy, obama is going to win because hes better than romney.

Obama is fighting an enthusiasm gap on two fronts. On one end you got those who will vote for him but just arent excited/enthused about it as last time (ill throw me in that group). On the other hand, you have people overly confident in Obama's chances against Romney that they think victory is a matter of showing up and voting. To the second group, obama can beat romney regardless of how bad the economy tanks because they believe romney and the republicans are just that bad right now.

In both instances, you have people who arent up and excited to go out and go to bat for the man for different reasons and that is a problem. You can maybe dismiss the first group of people cause you have their vote. The second group though are excited somewhat about obama but arent going out there battling for him because they believe victory is guaranteed. Both of these happening is not good and I believe the campaign knows this.

I didn't say he would win without anyone casting a vote. Apparently Republicans believe in electoral magic, which is why you are going to lose. Your candidate may be a unicorn (he still hasn't disproven it), but even that is not enough.

OP here. your last line is spot on.

The Obama PR/communication team is an abomination. The suck at hammering home their achievements and I have to rely on reading op/ed and other articles to even know what the administration has done. Grant it, they are all not things that will go down in history books but they are things the administration can go around proudly claiming they achieved.

I also think they spend too much time on these small focus group problems that benefit one group here and another there as oppose to larger issues that impact everyone.

Not at all. There are many paths to an Pbama victory, but also many paths to a Romney victory. Plus, his campaign has gotten off to a rocky start, and they need to right the ship. Finally, as a PP said, so much depends on the economy, and with so much of the world economy dependign on Europe, and in particular the upcoming Greek elections (the Greeks! seriously!), things do not look promising on that front.

50-50, he could easily lose and on the merits of his performance, that would be justified IMO (I voted for him & will again but with no enthusiasm this time).

Electoral math favors him, he has more sold states and 212 or so votes locked ...

But he could easily lose, he seems to have squandered so many opportunities to lead more strongly or to take advantage politically of various events and has done neither IMO.

Current economic trend & Europe makes it look bad for him, but see the underlying electoral advantage he has starting out.... it's a toss up.

His chances are completely dependent on the economy. A few months a go it looked like things were getting better. But the last two month of economic news have shown a major decline. If things continue to flat line or get worse he will have a very difficult time being re-elected.

At this point, my vote for Obama is on the strength that Romney isnt going to make things better and for fear that Romney may be president with a GOP house and senate. Mind you, I was never going to vote for the republican nominee so this was not going to be an option. I did consider at one time not voting for president (voting yes. but skipping president) but now feel the need to make sure that voting present (that was for you republicans reading this) isnt good enough and I need to go through with it.

Hes destroyed the country etc etc. I thank you for reminding me of this in advance but I dont want this to veer off into your birther and dog eating nonsense. I believe Obama will win, but have to confess not seeing how it will happen on the Electoral College math.

I think the biggest problem Obama faces is most people probably are resigned to the notion of living under President Romney.

I for one wont be surprised if he does lose and am almost resigned to that fact.
