I think I might get 'all up and white trash' too if some kids was bullying my kid so bad they were almost suicidal. However, I am training my kids young to stick up for themselves (and to stick up for the kids get bullied too!!!).

You can't fight bullying with bullying. The mom is a bully herself. If the daughter did it, I think that would be a different case. The mom is an adult and should have acted as one.

Maybe the little bastard will think twice next time...but then again his parents will probably coddle him so there goes a chance for a lesson to be learned.

I personally certainly do NOT wish jail time, nor do I think it would be justified; if all the bully has are some fading red marks on his neck! Now if the bully was in intensive care now, that's would be a totally different story.
If her daughter had choked the bully herself that would be a different story, too.

Basically IMO she was wrong, but bullies *must be stopped*, and apparently that's often not easy at the present time.

But I don't think it is going to help the daughter - I think it will make things worse for her. As a teenage girl, I would have been so incredibly embarassed if my mom tried to choke a boy who was teasing or harassing me. And what if she had seriously injured him, imagine how stressful and horrible it would be for the daughter if he mom went to jail!

This. If indeed they had gone to the police and the school with no results, she was acting in defense of her daughter.

A colleague's daughter was being bullied at school. Stupid bra-snapping kind of stuff in middle school. Colleague told her daughter that she hadn't had 6yrs of martial arts for nothing. Next time it happened, daughter had the guy by the throat in some sort of tae kwon do move against the lockers and told him in no uncertain terms never to touch her again. Funny thing - it worked.
