If he not only divorces you but cheats on you, insults you publicly, takes your kids away, and is a Kennedy so good luck fighting back, well, yeah, one can see how it might happen. Plus it would be a rare bird who could be a Kennedy half their lives without it becoming a huge part of their identity so having it taken away would have huge emotional consequences.

That is very mean pp -- bad karma has a way of coming around -- keep your nasty thoughts to yourself next time.

Kennedys are at it again trying to make her look like a monster, a psychopath, etc. I feel so sorry for her family.

Robert Kennedy is a creep.

21:56. Yeah, I don't think menopause played a role in Mary Kennedy's situation, but I do think it's possible that some women may be predisposed to hormonally influenced depression, just as in PPD.

I am not too sure if I agree with the menopause theory. Millions of women go thru menopause each year. How many kill themselves over it? I think the Kennedy lady had a bunch of issues. Did menopause help? No. I am not actually sure what menopause does help... as for the Kennedys as a clan - if you marry into that bunch, expect nothing less than a massively bumpy road.

I would add, hormonal teenagers are notoriously moody so again, seems very plausible.

Aside from this specific situation, I think OP raises a useful question re: menopause. I have no knowledge, but it certainly seems plausible. Postpartum depression is well known (and I did suffer from that), so clearly hormones play a role in some depressions.

Hope you are doing well now, OP.

and the Kennedys tried to make her look insane at the funeral talking about her demons, etc.

I agree. It must have been a torture for her to be treated like that.

Her family would know better than anyone how Kennedy mistreated his wife. It seems the Kennedys are incapable of monogomy. It's tragic the woman ended her life with children at home. No one would do this unless they were really at a complete loss.

I concur, husband wanted out and had the wherewithal to torture her.

Uh, menopause????

She killed herself because she was going through a terrible divorce, with Robert Kennedy (an ex-heroin addict) who had cut her off financially, who was known to cheat on her throughout the marriage, and who threw his latest relationship in her face. When she opened newspapers, she saw photos of her husband, his new girlfriend, her old Hollywood friends, and her children (!) together. She was about to lose her home - the home she had designed for her family.

She killed herself in the most shocking, public way possible: by HANGING herself. Her family said she just couldn't take anymore of it. The pressure of losing her home and children was too much to bear.

Did you not read the stories about how Robert Kennedy had to go and get a court order to plan the funeral? Her entire family fought him. They held their own private ceremony the following week.

Her suicide was a cry of ANGER, not depression. She did drink too much, but interestingly, her drinking only appeared to become a problem after he left her.

When I read the sad story about Mary Kennedy I couldnt help but wonder if menopause played a role.

I had NO history of depressions at all until I hit menopause, then Wow. Serious depression, deep down to my core.

I also note other late 40/50 yos that have had well publicized meltdowns -- Demi Moore, etc.

I don't want to trivialize real depression, and it seems though she had a history of it. But wondered whether others have had this same thought?
