Tell me more about the principal. He seems nice, but I don't really interact with him.

Colvin Run opened its doors in the 2003/2004 school year, so it is just finishing its 9th year.

Spring Hill splits between Longfellow/McLean and Cooper/Langley. Most go to Cooper/Langley. The ones who go to Longfellow/McLean (putting aside the AAP option) either live in single-family areas in Vienna south/west of Route 7 or apartment buildings in Tysons with McLean addresses inside-the-Beltway. Colvin Run opened its doors a decade or so again, so most of these people probably had nothing to do with the current boundaries.

It splits between Cooper/Langley and Longfellow/McLean. Not sure it's a big negative when there are so many "split feeders" in the area. Spring Hill and Franklin Sherman have the same split, and some of the nearby elementaries in Vienna, such as Wolftrap and Westbriar, split between Madison and Marshall for high school, even though all the kids go to Kilmer MS. Particularly with social media, kids who are friends stay in touch.

You really can't go wrong with this school. One of the best in FCPS

Principal is horrible. Staff is okay. The original staff that stayed from its opening are great. Others are just like the principal.

Amazing school. Practically new building (built less than 10 years ago I think)...very involved parents...very active PTA. You probably already know the scores are top notch but obviously there are other factors in your decision. There is a good mix of working/non-working parents and everyone pitches in what they can so it doesn't feel like the same 3 people do all the work. We are finishing our first year there and our child has truly flourished. Another thing I like is instead of multiple wrapping paper or candy bar sales throughout the year the PTO asks for a check at the start of the year. So much easier and probably ends up costing the same. The principal and vice principal are very communicative and really seem to love what they do.

Good luck! I'm not sure what you've heard but I will try to answer any questions you have...
