OP, try www.esalerugs.com, free and fast shipping, no sales tax and HUGE selection. They are in NC so my rugs showed up the next business day. I bought one rug (just to see how they were) and liked it so much I bought 4 more.

If you have their membership, try Costco (instore and online). We were in a similar situation when we moved into our house, and while we shopped around at all of the places mentioned above (minus the place on Wisconsin Ave), they had the best deal for size/comfort/utility with a kid. Good luck!

Are you trying to protect the floors or just decorate? Are you viewing this rug as disposable, i.e., something you'll ditch in a couple of years of crackers, paint, crayons and the like being ground in?

If you don't care about the looks for now and nee function over form, go to Home Depot and pull carpet off the roll. You can get neutral. I got like a 12X11 piece for a little over $100. Mind you, it's not bound or anything -- it's our stopgap rug in the family room until we can find/afford something nicer in a couple of years.
