I left early to pick up my baby from daycare in Arlington. Glad I did--missed a delay on the orange line and was able to drive rather than walk baby home. I got a little wet, but not bad.

We were out at Carmax by Dulles today and saw an enormous funnel cloud. You could feel the electricity in the air-all the hair was standing up on my arms (and legs, I sheepishly admit). It was freaky.

In dupont circle the sky is inky with very low visibility (sitting in my office on the 6th floor) and the rain is pouring.

It's a good soaking here in Arlington, but not an emergency.

It's a good time to observe problem areas around the house though. If your sump pumps are overwhelmed, check the perimeter to see where water might be collecting. It is possible that a drain or landscaping might allow that water to drain away from the house.

Holy shit. My husband still is trying to make it home. I have begged him to just stay at a hotel or at work in a basement. We've already had a tornado warning this evening where we were stuck in the unfinished dingy basement which I think was an error because it never showed up again and all other stations said "watch" for this area. Pools of water outside. Good thing my kids think this is cool and aren't scared at all! Thank GOD so far we haven't lost electricity, but I have no doubt we will, we always do. Praying my basement doesn't flood. Sump pumps are overwhelmed. Trees are already falling. I think I may hear hail.
