She's an absolute gem, and it was an act of arrogance to let her go. She won't be the first, though.

The excellent specials teacher IS very much leaving Murch because of the principal. She is leaving her kids there because she trusts the teachers, period. But from what she has told me directly she wants nothing to do with his type of leadership. Feel free to ask her directly anytime and she will gladly share the horrible experience she had that led her to leave. Truth, take it or leave it.

Exactly. The specials-teacher-leaving story definitely is not black and white.

I've yet to talk to a parent who is unhappy with him. I'm also on a committee with teachers, all of whom seem to view him positively.

My impression is that he is very action-oriented--both in terms of getting things done and acknowledging/rectifying mistakes. He's also taking a very thoughtful, fair, and proactive approach to class placement for next year.

I entered the year skeptical, but he has impressed me at pretty much every turn.

OP, best thing you can do is going to the school yourself, talk to the principal, talk to parents on the playground, maybe contact parents in the PTA and get an idea of how things are going directly

I talked to a couple of teachers who told me they were happy with the new principal. from what they told me, it seems that in general teachers are happy with him (my impression from the conversation, I have not talked to every single teacher of the school obviously). I personally attended at least two meetings with principal and one excellent special ed teacher (who is not leaving, BTW),and witnessed strong cooperation and mutual respect. with my personal limited experience as a parent, had the impression that school was run very well.

Murch parent here. It seems to me that things are going very well so far. he seems very engaged with the school, always on the playground in the morning before school starts, very friendly with kids and parents, and so on. we have a SN child and have been dealing with the school for our child problems, and found him very very present, he attended all the meetings we had with counselor and special ed coordinator and teachers, very proactive, invited us to meet with him later in the year to help us make some decisions. we had in general a very good impression. from my very limited perspective, it seems to me that he has a good relation with the teachers (apparently the lack of it was the dawnfall of the previous one) and I hope my impression is true. anyway, I really hope he stays longer than the previous ones and he is not scared away by some high maintenance helicopters

We will be moving back from overseas and are considering renting in the Murch area. Wondering how things are going with the new principal?
