Like I said, you have to do what you feel comfortable doing. We have talked to people in Montreal, and we feel it will be just fine. We also won't be schlepping around any old ladies.

As for a 10-percent drop in hotel bookings? Well, that tells me that 90 percent of tourists are not changing their plans.

Most of the incidents you mentioned happened at night. How late are you planning to be out on the street with your (presumably) young children and 75-year-old mother anyway?

Even if it is safe, I am not sure I want to spent my holiday in the middle of a protest zone. Doesn't sound relaxing. And it could be frightening for our child.

I'm an absurd poster. 8) They've been marching right where our hotel is, and I was going to be taking my 75 year old mother, who has difficulty with unplanned issues anyway. There have been some street fires, hydrants opened, and a coordinated smoke bomb "attack" on the subway, which shut it down temporarily a couple of weeks ago. I don't have unlimited cash, so I just felt it was better to cancel/postpone until later, when things settle down. Otherwise, I feel I'd be paying $$ to miss out on exhibits or museums or other tourist sites I wanted to see.

Hotel bookings have dropped 10% because of the protests. That's one measure that might make you feel more or less inclined to go.

Well, we are going in mid-June (also arriving right after Grand Prix), and I strongly believe the poster(s) who are canceling are being absurd. But, you have to do whatever makes you feel comfortable.

I'm reading the other post about Montreal with interest. We too have a trip planned for Montreal in June, staying in the neighborhood (three blocks from the gathering place for the protesters.) I'm hearing that it is safe but loud and crowded. Can anyone who is familiar with Montreal provide your thoughts and suggestions on whether it would be safe/pleasant to visit Montreal in mid-June (a week after Grand Prix). Thanks! We have a toddler who (like all kids) functions best with naps and good nighttime sleep.
