also call some vets in the area and let them know you found it. Many offices have a book of lost pets. I called the local vets when I lost my cat a couple of years ago and they were happy to take my info.

Poor guy. If we didn't already have a fairly needy parrot, presuming his owners don't turn up, I'd check into getting him.

11:56 Could you just call the number in the sign and tell them to contact the humane society? Thanks!

Have them call DJ Feathers. They're cockatiel breeders and know how to track ownders through the band on the foot of the bird. We have cockatiels (which is why i know this).

If anyone comes across this and knows someone who lost their bird, it is now with the Mo Co Humane Society.

My husband's friend lost one a few months ago. He searched for days and is still devastated. Please contact your local animal shelter and hopefully they can help you find the owner.

You could suggest they take it to Phoenix Landing in Virginia, which is a no-kill shelter for birds. Possibly Phoenix Landing has foster folks close to your friends.

Make sure they look on craigslist. I found the owner of a lost bird that way, and reunited it with its people.

Someone I know had a tame, people friendly cockatiel fly up to them at a BBQ in Rock Creek Hills (Kensington) last night. It wants to stay. They want to find its owner. They're taking it to a shelter on Tuesday if they can't find it's owner.
