I wouldn't say this about any place, but yes, it was definitely worth it. Amazing. Went last year, I'm veg. Worth every penny -- truly remarkable food, fantastic service and ambiance. DH arranged it as a surprise for our anniversary and i remember thinking on the inside that it wouldn't be worth as a veg--but I'm happy to say I was wrong.

What makes it "best meal of my life"?

When I think of great vegetable meals, I think of minimally processed, freshly picked, organically grown vegetables.

Yet they charge $100-200+ for dinner at places like I@LWash.

Is it the ambiance & the service that makes it worth it?

As an avowed carnivore, I sometimes get the veg tasting menu at very good restaurants (CityZen! Go! Now!). It takes more skill to compose a very good vegetarian dish because a chef doesn't have the central focus and dominant flavor of the meat to fall back on - it's a chance to showcase a great chef's skills (and Patrick O'Connell certainly qualifies as a great chef). In fact, L'Arpege, one of the best reataurants in the world, went ALL vegetarian a few years ago(they have since reintroduced seafood and poultry).

You can be sure TIALW won't be giving you collection of side dishes already on the menu, or boring pasta with tomato sauce. I wouldn't have any hesitation at all.

What are the kinds of veg options they provide?

I ate at a similar caliber restaurant in San fransisco a few years ago and they had a vegetarian option for a tasting menu. I chose it and it was one of the best meals of my life. Those types of restaurants anticipate vegetarians and usually provide an equal dining experience for them.

I ate there as a vegetarian Best meal of my life. It was 14 or so years ago, but I'll bet it's still great.

The woman i talked to assured me there would be veg choices but is it worth the expense as a vegetarian?
