I'm not sure what post you are referring to, but I wrote the first post in this thread. I didn't say anything about a leader. There have been many threads on this website about how black voters are disproportionately anti-gay marriage. Now we have data that shows that is not the case. I don't know why this alleged trend has changed, if it has even changed. I'm just glad that there are more votes in support of gay marriage in Maryland.

OMG he is the leader of both. He's our President, and he's the first Black President. If you want to pretend that it has no significance, fine. If you want to pretend that people are not motivated and persuaded by leaders, be my guest, but it's ridiculous. Whether it is business, politics, the arts, or religion, leaders shape opinion. So fine, the Pope is just another voice in a fancy hat, Dr. King was just a random guy in a march, the minister in the pulpit is just there to kick off the hymns, and dammit I feel that the term "Founding Fathers" is condescending because I don't need a parent to take care of me.

Following what Obama says because he is black is just as terrible as someone NOT following what Obama says becuase he is black.

Do you really think all of the black voters are voting for Obama because they agree with his politics? Give me a break. Many of them (and white people too) have no idea where he stands on many issues.

Remember when black voters were going to defeat same sex marriage in Maryland? Well, maybe not so much:

Keep in mind that the National Association of Marriage (NOM) had an explicit plan to use same sex marriage to drive a wedge between the black and gay communities. I guess they need to go back to the drawing board.
