I'd have taken the toddler with me. No reason to leave her behind screaming for the couple of minutes it would take to load the movie. Those minutes were an eternity to the other patrons.

A sheepish but sincere "Sorry" to the other patrons doesn't hurt either.

OP, if anyone gave me the stink eye I would laugh really loud in their face.

That said, tend to any crying individual immediately, regardless of age! Do you blame the child for not wanting to sit there? Call me what you will, but Dh and I did not go to restaurants until the children were old enough to grasp manners. It depends on the child, but it is NOT infant or toddler age.

If my kids ever acted up while we were out eating I would tend to it immediately. If I couldn't get the situation under control and my kid continued to throw a tantrum, scream or whatever thereby disrupting other patrons we would leave immediately.

Stop going to restaurants wen you have an infant and a toddler. It sucks for you and everyone else there. Why do people even do this?

Maybe he wasn't a parent and didn't know what you were attempting to do (load iPhone).

Maybe he was a parent and knew you probably could've just put her on your hip while you went to the front and spared everyone the screaming meltdown.

OP, it's a southern thing. They make faces worse than the small children. It is laughable. If anything, cheer up knowing you are the better person

OP, that's a stressful situation. Maybe he doesn't have kids. Unless and until you are a parent with a cranky toddler in a public place, you may just. not. get. it. And we parents have to do our absolute best but then when we have, ya gotta treat outside criticism like water off a duck's back!

we were at a chipotle kind of place for lunch today and our toddler was not happy sitting down. she ate super fast and our infant decided to start crying exactly at the time she decided to run around. it was tough to control both so i just asked DH to give her his iphone so she could watch a movie. we were in the very end of the room so there was no service so i decided to walk towards the door to load the freaking movie to give her the phone. obviously she opened her big mouth and screamed from the top of her lungs MY PHOOOOOOOOOONE and started crying. i looked at her saying I'LL BE RIGHT BACK and she started crying. the guy in the next table gave me and then her the ugliest look ever. i felt like laughing... buddy, if you think your stinky eye will calm her down you're WRONG. wait until you have your very own kids and you'll apologize to me in your mind.

i loaded the movie and gave the phone to her. we all enjoyed our food in peace and left as happy as we could be.

what's up with this people giving the stinky eye to parents when there's nothing we can do? don't they know we're embarrassed enough by the child's behavior? they MUST do it to make us feel even worse? why?
