Is he at a private school that works with SN? If so, they might be able to suggest othert such private schools that are a better fit. Have you considered hiring an educational consultant. What public school system are you looking at? Does he have a just in case IEP? if not, I would start the process as a back-up.

If it's the right fit I don't moving schools is disruptive. I just think you need to do all the legwork to make sure you get a good fit before leaving.

We did. My DS was in a partial immersion program which was not a good fit for him given his challenges. We finshed out the school year (K) and started first at our base school. The transition wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. He has anxiety anyway and was already anxious about the start of school even before we told him he was changing schools. It was like starting K all over again but it's been well worth it.

Looking for experience here. We have our 6yo in a fairly expensive private school. We really loved it and thought it seemed a good fit for his 'quirky' behaviour. But we've since found out he has ASD. His school aren't great in terms of suppor and I honestly fell like they'd rather not have him there. Where to start? I'm actually thinking he might be better in a public school. Anyone successfully taken their child out of a school?
