I'm a few steps farther on the path and so far, no. That's what my lawyer says too. If you have in any way indicated that they are less than perfect they feel rage toward you and will use the kids and the legal process to make your life miserable. It has nothing to do with you per se, you are just an object of their wrath. Good luck![/quote


That's why I moved out of state! I was afraid of how much damage he would do to our kids. He has a mother with NPD.

OP, I have no advice, but want to wish you well. Dated an NPD and the aftermath really sucked. Can only imagine once children are involved. My best wishes to you.

I'm sorry I was typing too fast. I didn't mean to type "ex". He's not my ex. We're still married. Also meant, has he been "formally" diagnosed...by a psychologist?

OMG, how I feel your pain. Have been trying to get away from my NPD ex for TWO YEARS. I have a therapist and have spent $$$$$ on lawyer fees already. It is soooo difficult, especially if you have kids (i have 3 lovely daughters). I know that one day I will be free but it takes a looooong time. I will not give up. Was he formerly diagnosed? Is he in therapy? Have you told him you want a divorce yet? What was his reaction? Do you have a job? Can you move out and be on your own? so interested to hear your story. I'm sorry, I don't know of anyone in this area that specializes. I'm told the best route is get him into mediation rather than a court trial...but he will have to agree to mediation. That is the challenge I am having now.

Divorcing an ex with NPD may be worse than living with him. Anyone work with an attorney or parenting coordinator with experience with the particular challenges that go with narcissism (and the need for vengence)?
