My rule of thumb is to avoid US and Australia. For that price point you get a lot of good wines from Spain and Chile.

Black Box merlot is my everyday wine in the winter. Have a Black Box pinot grigio right now, but not loving it. I recall liking the Big House boxed red, but it isn't quite as easy to find. We drink the from the box during the week b/c we drink less that way.

Le Bon Vin de la Napa Valley, it's usually $13 but really worth it, even people who don't normally like red enjoy it
Costco in Va has great deals on great wines

Hogue Rieslings are fantastic - especially their late harvest ones.

I obviously like sweet wines, so I'm a huge fan of Jam Jar as well. (Sweet Shiraz and Moscato). Available at World Market.

Dr. Loosen's Riesling. They have a $20 bottle called Loosen Bros. but in the range you are talking, the Dr. Loosen is great. My go-to grocery store wine.

My everyday wine is Frontera (by Concha y Toro). I get the 1.5 L bottles from Rodman's for about $9.

Tuscan moon Sangiovese from trader joes. Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot (maybe more like $11).

Two buck chuck is not worth it IMO.

I'm not talking Boone's Farm cheap, but more in the $8-10 range. Any nice, drinkable, hidden gems out there I should know about? We drink Yellow Tail, Barefoot, and the like, but looking for something new.
