There have been several threads about this type of request before (you can search for them). Plenty of ideas for what many people consider good delivery foods.

However, the best bet (and most frequent response) is to call or stop by and tell her that you would like to make some meals for her family to help them get through the early days and ask if they have any dietary restrictions or preferences that you should know for meal planning. And also when would be a convenient time to bring the food over.

ran into a mom, TWO doors down from us, with a new babe. I obviously do not know her at all. But I want to do the friendly thing and bring her a meal.

when you know NOTHING (and I mean nothing except eye color and sex of baby) about someone, what is the safest thing you can make?

I thought of risotto with vegetable broth (in case they are vegetarian), but is cheese a bad choice? Then I thought maybe I'd be better off making oatmeal cookies for her (I ate a lot of oatmeal cookies when I breastfeeding)?

any better ideas out there?
