careful w/ aquaphor, my son was incredibly allergic to it and developed bleeding sores in a day from it. For us, letting him be diaperless whenever possible (gross i know, but if he was just resting on a blanket or whatever, put an extra one down b/c it's not like there is lots of volume at that point), seventh generation diapers and the purple desitin slathered on liberally. Also, when we switched formulas to similiac sensitive, it went away. good luck

New mom here of a 9 day old and we had a rash shortly after coming home from the hospital, and after switching from Pampers (which she used at the hospital) to 7th Gen we are now rash free.

Use Grandma El's diaper rash remedy and prevention. You can buy it on amazon.

It works amazingly well

I did use Desitin and it didn't work for the really bad rashes. A day to day thing it was fine, but it didn't prevent/cure as my son needed it.
Might have worked for you, and that's great, but not for everyone.

We tried them all when DS #2 had a terrible diaper rash. The only thing that worked was the red Butt Paste. Swear by it.

Also, get rid of the fragrance diapers like Pampers & Huggies. Does no one's butt good.

My DD has her first real rash - at 7 months!

Here is what we did per our pedi (Dr. Anez - love her!):

1) Use VASELINE every diaper change (rather than Desitin)
2) If she has a rash, use DESITIN (the purple, extra strength one). It should go away mostly in 24 hours. It's great!

Pinxav is the diaper cream we have used for two children. Works amazingly well. I can only buy it via the internet and have it shipped. Be warned, it stains clothes for good!

Zeasorb powder (purchased from CVS next to the Atheletes' foot products), works wonders.

Why kind of Maalox do you use? Doesn't the flavor burn the tush?

DS had horrible diaper rash that I could not get ahead of. I tried everything. Every diaper cream, not using wipes, baking soda baths, and airing out diaper free. I finally figured out out was the huggies little snugglers I was using. I switched to pampers swaddlers and it immediately went away and hasn't come back. I think different babies react differently to the various diapers, creams and wipes out there. When I switched, it got better within about 2 days.

I've used mylanta and triple paste in really bad situations. Also neosporin can help the healing. Good luck - I know how tough it is to see your little one in pain.

The only thing that worked for us was a prescription called Vusion. Another thing that helped was not using a diaper wash and using a damp wash cloth.

Our daughter had a horrible diaper rash when we were visiting relatives in rural CO and the emergency pediatrician there recommended Aquaphor and liquid Maalox. Believe it or not it worked like a charm. My own pediatrician thought is was crazy, but I now swear by it for bad diaper rashes.

You'll likely get a host of different suggestions/remedies from posters. My baby had a AWFUL diaper rash for the first 8 months of his life, probably from the Pampers diapers we were using. We tried everything under the sun, both prescription and over the counter. They first thought it was a yeast infection, but it was not.

It finally cleared up within a week. We continue to use only that zinc, 7th Gen diapers, and rinse out the wipes to this day and my baby is now 8 months old.

My newborn who is four weeks today has had a diaper rash for the last week. I change her diapers immediately after each pee/poop/shart, and make sure that she is dry each time, but she has still developed a diaper rash. With the amount of diaper changes, I feel like her diaper rash has no chance.

This is my second child, and I've tried everything I know to do: use water and cotton pads instead of wipes, use sensitive wipes, use spray bottle with warm water and dap with washcloth, use cloth diapers, use disposable diapers, use Aquaphor, use Triple Cream, let her air out for a few hours, etc. Unfortunately, no luck so far.

I've heard that mixing Aquaphor with crushed Maalox (antacid) works wonders. Has anyone tried this?
