I have a friend with kids at Summit School in Edgewater and she raves about it - great for dyslexia and other language issues.

Anyone still here with a child at Chelsea? Probably applying there and at Baltimore Lab for ds with MERLD, dyslexia, ADHD. Would love opinions on those two, or other, schools.

Must be SN school. We live in AA County, so we'd prefer not to head too far west.

Also considering Jemicy School, Compass Academy, Odyssey School. Would love other ideas.

Chelsea is not fancy, but the teachers are truly amazing. We were pleasantly surprised by the progress our child has made in a limited amount of time at Chelsea.

Chelsea school in Downtown Silver Spring. Great school to LD kids with Speech language, etc. not fancy. It the teachers & staff are excellent at what they do and they Care!

The school will be moving to a nicer facility in College Park just before the 2013-2014 school year.

Not sure about the commute but you should look at St. John's. I know 2 at Gonzaga and 1 at St. Johns should make for interesting dynamics.

I know there is a woman on this site who is die hard Gonzaga family whose son goes to St. Johns. She actually told me about it - I might see you there one day.

Did you talk to Gonzaga - some schools have programs they don't advertise.

What grade level is your special needs child?

The elementary school in University Park is one of the county's best. I don't know how well they deal with special needs children though.

I live in Prince George's County and send both my children to public elementary schools. I think their education has been fine -- certainly better than my own as a child, and just as good as that of friends's kids who send their children to MCPS. So I wouldn't not write off public schools in your area -- you should take the time to visit!

However, if you can afford three children in private school, then wonderful. I heard great things about Gonzaga!

I don't think our county's public High Schools have a great reputation.

We are considering a move to University Park, but know we have to put kids in private school. Two others are normal developing so can send to Gonzaga. One DS is special needs -- lots of speech and some fine motor delays. Is there anything close? By close I mean 20 minutes to and from or a simple Metro trip into DC with short walk.

And, based on school testing results and crime in the area, I'm assuming public school in PG county, particular in this part, is not a realistic option, even for a special ed kid. Please correct if wrong!
