I'm further down on Shreve Road from Falls Hill and as PP mentioned my kids play soccer with VYS, play tennis at Poplar Heights pool, play T-ball with Falls Church and we swim there during the summer. There are brand new homes going up on Pioneer Lane, in FC just off of Shreve Rd. you may want to look at those homes.

And the great thing about being in west Falls Church is that you can not only take advantage of the activities in Fairfax County, but those in Falls Church City and Arlington as well.

There are several private pool clubs in the area - two that come to mind serving Kilmer/Marshall are Dunn Loring Swim Club and Cardinal Hill Swim & Racquet Club. The town of Vienna and Fairfax County parks and recs serve the area. Vienna runs youth soccer and other sports, as does McLean. There are community centers in both Vienna and McLean.

OP here. Thanks for your responses! We would be moving from Reston, where there are so many amenities for families - pools with summer swim teams, community centers with a myriad of classes and activities, sports leagues and facilities, hiking trails, etc. Are there similar amenities in the neighborhoods surrounding, for example, Shrevewood, Stenwood, and Westgate? Thanks!

All of this "sudden" attention on Marshall makes me giggle.
I attended Marshall in the late 80s into early 90s and it was a wonderful school back then. Small school, and we were almost all college bound with a matriculation list that included: Harvard, Princeton, UVA, UC - Berkeley, GWU, Georgetown, William and Mary, etc...

Marshall was always more diverse than Madison, but it was an asset.

We are Westgate/Kilmer/Marshall. There are quite a few single family homes for sale in your range in our neighborhood.

Why would you call it an "unrecognized gem" when it's been highly ranked for years, with SATs in the top 1/3 of Fairfax County high schools? Are you trying to sell a house in the Marshall district? People who live in the Madison district used to bash Marshall years ago, but not so much any more.

All of Shrevewood and Stenwood ES feed into Marshall.

Much of Westbriar, Wolftrap, Freedom Hill, Lemon Road and Westgate ES feed into Marshall. The rest of the first three schools go to Madison, while the rest of the last two schools go to McLean.

A little bit of Cunningham Park and Vienna ES feeds into Marshall. Most of the kids at those schools go to Madison.

In any of those districts, you can find a range of SFHs.
