That said: please realize that nursing consists of often conflicting, chaotic and somewhat unpredictable duties. A lot of people who come into nursing because they hunk the money is good will leave. Most of the men I know make poor nurses on the floor, but those who managed to stay are awesome.

In the course of one shift I have been: bitten and kicked by a trauma neuro pt, puked on, cleaned up massive heme positive diarrhea, bathed a patient whose skin and dirt was peeling off in sheets, coded the diarrhea patient, started three ivs on the neuro pt and gotten an admit at change of shift.

If you don't think you can deal, think twice about nursing. There is a reason we make so much and t has to do with holding someone's life in our hands.

Sounds rough. [sarcasm]

My current orientee is a newish grad with a massive attitude problem. Mid-50's, came into nursing for stability and he is the worst pain in the ass. Younger guys in nursing rock. The old ones, not so much.

PP that is what I like about it so far ( in school/clinicals) despite the "code browns"--never a dull moment.

I am a CNE at local hospital. New grads around here start around $26-28 per hr plus shift differential.
Educators often are salaried, where I work they earn around 75-80 per year for full time. Clinical Nurse Spec MSN path will give you much more flexibility in your career than a straight educator track. Either way, you need to get certified in your speciality area.

New grad jobs are getting hard to find, a BSN will help. AD nurses are having a rough time,
