How can you have VEST and a 529 plan? VEST is a 529.

Also, are you saying that they gave you as much money as if your VPEP money had gone into a VEST? Really? There are a bunch of plans -- did you get to pick which rate of return you wanted?

Out of State. That's really good to know about being able to transfer VPEP to VEST!

I was wondering if that was allowed...VPEP for tuition and VEST for expenses.

19:45 here again. We also have a Coverdell. You're very limited in contributions, but it's the only plan that you can use (for now) to cover K-12 or college expenses.

The prepaid plan scares me. It only covers tuition and fees, not room/board and other expenses. I think people often assume it covers "everything", but it's really more like half of the cost.

If your child decides to go out of state, you make very little on the money that you put into the fund.

We went VEST for the tax advantages and the freedom for our child to go to school where they want.

Our choice was between suspenders and spats. We went with suspenders because we thought that spats were even more old-fashioned than suspenders.

Went with VEST because we're not assuming our kids will want to go in-state.
