Subject: Estimate on screened porch addition
we spent about $8K for our 15x20 porch (new decking, 4 outlets, fan, 4 recessed lights) in Charlotte. Not sure why it costs so much in your area..

We spent about $30k: new decking, new outlets, speakers, fan, skylights, etc. We love it.

Neighborhood doesn't matter. What matters is the perceptions of the homeowner and the type of contractor or design build firm they go with.

As we are discovering on the addition thread, neaighborhood seems to matter.
I was quoted $50-60K a year or so ago in Chevy Chase, DC. Didn't do the job. However, now (same area) I was quoted $30K to add one to a house that is currently being built - I guess in part because they will already be on site it is cheaper. Not sure how it is $20K more just to do it as a one off job, but hope the data is helpful.

We built one from scratch by busting out a double window, which we turned into french doors. Our is smaller...13x11, but we had to add stairs due to the slope of our yard. We also added an electrical outlet & ceiling fan. Cost $13k.

I was wondering the same thing. Can people also specify whether they enclosed an existing deck or built one entirely? And also share whether you had to add doors or anything?

We did a 16'x16 screened in porch that opens onto 10'x16 deck. It was about 30k 2 yrs ago.
