Then maybe those people will put pressure on their legislators to be more inclusive. I have a right to spend my vacation dollars any way I want, and I'm just not comfortable spending them in a place with these types of laws on the books.

You realize that this is just not about gay marriage.

Children of cohabitating couples are at risk of losing insurance. The fact is that a handful of cities that offer domestic partner benefits will now have to revoke them due to the amendment passing. Those local governments include Greensboro, Asheville and Chapel Hill, as well as Mecklenburg County (Charlotte).

There are a number of other "possible impacts" that depend on how the amendment is interpreted. Among those potential impacts are:

•Custody and visitation rights for unmarried parents could be curtailed.
•Non-married partners may see rights revolving around hospital visitation and emergency medical decision-making curtailed.
•Non-married partners could lose some standing to make decisions after a partner has died and estate planning could be more difficult for non-married couples.

The last time North Carolina amended their constitution on marriage it was to ban interracial marriage.

The state law gets to decide and if the advocacy groups want the same rights then come out and say it. It has nothign to do with marriage it has to do with equal rights and I am all for that. If a person who has a partner that is dying and only family can see them I think that is wrong but the definition of marriage in the state is what it is .
The groups went about this this the right way at the beginning of the equal rights many years ago but they lost their focus and tried to shove it down the throats of all and it backfired in the more conservative areas.

Virginia passed a marriage amendment several years ago. Are those beaches on the boycott list too?

Too late we put our deposit down in January. Most people reserve their OBX vacation months ahead of time.

It is sad that there are about 30 states that have a marriage amendment. It is shameful.

As someone who was born and raised in NC, I am embarrassed.

Agreed. I can't believe the people of North Carolina would support such a thing. We are planning our vacation elsewhere this year. I've been to places with backward belief systems - but I can't believe so many Americans are this ignorant.

I hope my daughter will learn about this the same way I learned about slavary.

Please consider spending your dollars elsewhere. The marriage amendment which was passed with over a 60% majority is not just about gay marriage. It also limits the rights of couples (and their children) who have made a choice not to enter into the traditional marriage contract. Do not throw away your beliefs on human rights for a week at the beach! There are plenty of those in the world.....
