Could be a bug. My mom worked in the ER for about 25 years and they pulled out many bugs from ears, especially small roaches from kids. I doubt that's what you have unless you happen to have a roach problem in or around your bedroom?

The only person who should diagnose you is the one looking through an otoscope.

OP, there are many types of ear infections and you've probably had the most common ones. I don't mean to come off as a total bitch, but it is time to stop googling and trying to self diagnose. If you don't have a primary, go to a walk in clinic. Don't potentially cause permanent problems because you waited too long trying to self diagnose.

OP, have you been to a doctor? I couldn't quite tell from your post when you said you got no help from a doctor. If you haven't yet been to a doctor, call your PCP and say you are having some problems with your ear; pain and an uncomfortable feeling. They'll be able to look inside and see fairly easily if it is a wax build up/infection somewhere in the inner ear. Also mention the car accident, as I had a jaw problem and it presented itself like ear pain.

If you have already been to your PCP and got no advice/ help, I would def. go see an ENT.

and like a PP said (although a little blunt), don't stick anything in your ear to try to relieve the discomfort. It could cause some pretty bad problems depending on what the issue is.

Not sure about the wax. I have had ear infections and never felt like this. And, I keep my ears clean.

But, perhaps I don't know what I'm talking about. It just feels like something else.

you have impacted wax and likely an infection. your canal is irritated. you need to see an ENT.

You must be an absolute joy on a daily basis.

I have a strange sensation in one of my ears. It waxes and wanes during the day but when it's there it drives me nuts. It feels like there is a caterpillar/insect in my ear. Tickles and itchy. I scratch and tug until it subsides. Now it is hurting from the scratching/tugging.

I've tried looking online but nothing is helpful. Others seem to have felt this but have gotten no help from a doctor. I'm not even sure what I would say.

I was rear-ended a couple mos ago. Could it be linked? Any medical professionals able to offer an opinion?

thanks
