That's horrible. Our preschool doesn't even have TVs.
I would not put my child in care that used tv to chill kids out - what are the daycare providers for?

This isn't like home where I, the mom, might be making dinner and throwing laundry in and trying to feed the baby so I let my kid watch TV!

Totally unacceptable. I occasionally use TV at home when I absolutely need to get something done, but that's for my benefit, not my child's. A childcare/preschool should be designed entirely based on what is best for the kids. The teachers shouldn't be trying to get anything else done while the kids are there besides interacting with and caring for the kids. Most daycares seem to be able to do this just fine without TV, so I would be wary of one that cannot.

PP again - I'll also add that I'm not anti-TV. DD has been watching TV for a while, but I don't really see why it'd be needed for a daycare. I'd rather they stuck the kids with some blocks or dolls or something. There's other kids there. I really don't see any need to have 2 or 3 years old planted in front of a TV for an hour.

We were at a daycare where they watched almost an hour of TV a day (including morning and aftercare). I thought it was excessive, so we left.

I would definitely ask how long they kids spend watching TV. And, if it's every day?

I also agree about asking if they provide alternatives. I would pick DD up sometimes at her old daycare (where there was TV) and the kids were mostly 'forced' to watch TV. As in, if they got up to walk around, they'd be instructed to 'sit back down and watch tv'.

I'm at a big center - and no TV....ever. I would also find this unacceptable.

TV usage in a daycare setting is unnaceptable in my opinion.

I think TV in a daycare is horrible, if I am paying money for my child to be watched and stimulated not sit like a blob in front of a TV (I could just do that at home for free)

14:19 here again, I realized I didn't answer the question-My questions will be- how often do they watch tv? is it just once in a while as a treat or sometimes when its raining? or is it every day before nap time while they try to get the kids to wind down? Is there an alternative if you don't want your child watching tv, like another area they can go to to do a different quiet activity, or are all the kids supposed to sit and watch?

I have dropped in at daycare and sesame street was on so I know they have some sort of TV time. My son is still in the infant room though so I've never asked about how much TV time they actually get but it will be one of my questions when he moves into the older room.

No TV at my kid's daycare (downtown BH). I would not find this acceptable.

I am looking at a center that does play Dora episodes but what questions should I ask regarding tv time?
