OP, I think it's a great idea to just review all the standards. In my experience a lot of math at this level can be learned very quickly, it is just a mater of being exposed to it.

In addition, just sit and watch your child do some multiplication and division problems two be sure she can do them accurately and rapidly.

Also a solid basic understanding of fractions is very important, especially understanding, say, how 3/9 is equivalent to 1/3 and 10/5 is equivalent to 2.

OP here; that's what I'm worried about. She's very good at Math, and normally I wouldn't be worried, but I'm assuming that all the kids will be good at math as well and will have a better grounding in the skills MC is looking for. I've found the MD standards, and I'll just make sure that she's covered all of the 4th grade material before next year. Looking at it she's covered a decent amount of it, but there are gaps.

Snarky weird comments aside, I would look into this more closely. In DS' HCG class all the kids were at least a year ahead, and in my experience loking at private schools a couple of years ago, most private schools were not providing much acceleration.

At our HGC, all HGC kids were either in 1 year ahead or 2 year ahead math.

I agree, that if your child was accepted, she will likely fit in fine, but it's better to call the school and ask then have anxiety about it all summer. At our school both HGC and non-HGC kids have reading and math packets to complete over the summer, so you might as well call and ask about that. At our school, kids take a math placement exam within the first week, so you can ask for the scores for that and discuss placement or whether there are any holes your child should work to fill so she won't be caught unawares in a particular math unit.

The kids are grouped by math so she should be fine. At my child's center. There a 4th graders taking 4th, 5th and 6th grade math. They will put her in the appropriate group based on py info and test scores.

Why not contact the school/teacher? You can get better info. and they may have experience with past transitions from your school.

September always seems like review anyway.

In my daughter's 3rd grade MCPS class they are not yet using the new curriculum, so I would look to the 2004 standards.

I would suspect if your daughter was accepted she should be fine with what she has been learning plus her curiosity and aptitude.

My daughter will be heading to a HGC next year from a private school. I wanted to make sure that she's covered the same things in math so that she's on the same page as the other kids. In poking around I see that there are 2004 standards and 2010 standards (which were just phased in this year?). Which should I be looking at?
