Really? On a recent trip to the Aquatic Gardens, Ranger Ian told a group on Kindergardeners that in MD, they kill the geese and feed them to the homeless. He then added that in DC, we don't do this because DC is too polluted. This was a Park Ranger. If they are protected, why are they being fed to the homeless?

I really enjoy when they fly overhead outside and I can hear them honking! They've never really bothered me. They stay off to the side on the grass when I'm walking on trails.

Has anyone on this thread actually ever been harmed by a goose??? It sounds like maybe some people have been inconvenienced by them, but not harmed. Should we kill anything that inconveniences us? My two toddlers inconvenience me all of the time.
Just enjoy the damn geese already people. They are quite funny really.

We used to walk in a park that was lovely, except for the large goose population. After one of them charged my toddler, I started carrying an umbrella every time we went, regardless of the weather. Pop it open in their direction, and they do a very satisfying honking-and-fleeing.

They make excellent watch animals. They stay together, nip, chase and make so much noise that people pay attention.

yes, stay far, far away from the geese if there are goslings (not the Ryan kind) around. They are extremely territorial, WILL chase you and WILL bite. I hate running on the Mt. Vernon trail at certain times of year because of the insane geese.

+1 And they'll attack anything comes close their babies, including my baby who simply walks by them as he's going to the playground. I wish I could get rid of all of them.

This morning on my way to drop DD off a school I saw a pair of geese on someone's front lawn (on a pretty busy road) and when I looked back I noticed a whole gaggle of tiny baby geese - they were in a little protected area, surrounded by railroad ties, and their parents were just outside the area... looked like they were watching over them. So darn cute!!!
