Wow, I also work for a Fed agency but it seems more flexible that what is being said here. We can do up to 3 days per week but it's up to the discretion of the manager. I don't know of anyone who gets to do 3 days though, but I do know of some people who do 2 days telework regularly. There is never an issue with switching days either. I personally do one day per week but am thinking of switching to 2 days per week.

I work for DC gov and we are not allowed to telecommute in my office - it sucks!

I work for a nonprofit and telecommute nearly 100%. I come in for meetings or events. I used to be a full-time in-office employee (I'm a specialist in my career, which involves project-based, not client-centered, work). When I was telecommuting one then two days a week, my org was very flexible about moving days.

Telecommuting is the wave of the future and my organization is just catching on (earlier than others, it seems). The savings over the past year (rental of downtown office space and electricity/HVAC) alone have convinced the org to increase the number of people telecommuting. I hope feds get to exercise the benefit more in the future, as it SHOULD help keep gov't costs down for resources for their workforce.

I work for a nonprofit. We telework once a week and it's a rotating schedule set so that all of us aren't out at once. One week we have Friday out, then Thursday the next week, and so on. Mondays nobody is allowed to telework without special permission.

We can switch days if need be - we just check to make sure that a group within our department still has some coverage. and if we're on deadline but we're sick or have a sick kid, we can do a combo of sick/telework time to meet the deadline without infecting people.

I work in a corporate environment and there is no official policy on telework or telecommuting. DH and I can do so as needed for appointments, sick children, just to get caught up on some things, etc. It is up to the individual manager.

I work for a consulting firm. My manager allows us to telework at our discretion. Not all managers in my firm allow this which seems unfair.

Used to be able to telework 1-2x per week and it was great. Now the client has complained and we are only allowed to telework when absolutely necessary - and not at all on Monday or Friday. Sux

This really varies from manager to manager. I'm a fed manager and I allow my employees to switch their telework days whenever they feel like it for really any reason at all (unless of course I need them in the office that day- but this is really never an issue). Other managers in my office will only allow their employees to switch telework days if there is a work related reason why they need to switch. I don't really understand why they are rigid about this. The way I view it- I can't pay my employees more, so I am going to do whatever I can to make high performing employees want to stay.
We basically allow teleworking 1 day a week- more some of the time.

I'm also a fed - I'm only allowed to telework once per pay period on a set scheduled (I do Fridays) but my current supervisor has been super cool about letting me switch telework days (to the following Friday). He even lets me telework "ad hoc" when I need to. It's a fairly new and un-used concept here, so everyone is careful about how much they allow. Past supervisor was more conservative about what he would allow. Sad he's leaving. Hopefully someone to replace him, but what are the odds of that? Back to the dark ages....

We're now allowed to telework 2 days a week, and can only switch for "production" purposes -- important, work related, not something like a conference.

OP here. Hmm....sounds suspiciously like my office. Wonder if we work for the same place?

My director doesn't really trust people to work at home, so at the end of the day we have to send in a pretty detailed accounting of everything we did.

Other offices within my agency are more generous/flexible with telework time.

I work for a nonprofit and teleworking is allowed as needed. I do it quite often and am currently negotiating it so I can go to twice a week.
