But I'd go to General Parenting with the question of how to tell whether your child is ready to move from an extremely part time experience to a 5 day a week program that I'd call extremely academic.

You might want to break your question down and ask different parts in different forums.

The original poster, me, I live in Petworth. Bought my home there in 2001 and can't afford to live in any other neighborhood. Never thought I had a bubble.

I actually talk to everyone about this question: River, Mundo, parents and educators I know, and I was interested in thoughts from the larger community that may know both of these schools better than I. "Peers" is an interesting word choice. I may have peers at River in some ways but not in others. There are other families that actually will be moving their child from River to a PCS east of the park, just as I am considering. I'm sure this is not uncommon for families at other privates.

Bilingualism is a multi year commitment. At least 4 years if no prior Spanish. If your child has any special needs or language issues, of course River is better option.

River school has a track record, and Mundo Verde does not. People may be happy there, but it doesn't mean that will transfer into strong academic achievement for the students. There's just no way to know yet. River School is in a great location and will not be moving. If you have the funds to attend River School, don't leave. If we could afford to send our daughter to a great and safely located private school, we would in a heartbeat.

That's a $1000 (deposit) question!!!

Would you hope to keep her at MV through the early elementary grades, or might you want to send her to a different private?

If you're not in it for a 3-4 year minimum commitment, don't send her to MV. Going into & then out of language immersion is not wise.

Note also that MV's location isn't permanent. Are you willing to follow the school to its next location?

Hi all, I don't even know how to ask this question, so here goes:

If you had the opportunity, would you send your 3 year old to the River School in Palesades or to Mundo Verde, a new Public Charter School?

Our little one has been at River for a year and it has been a very supportive environment in many respects. Mundo is in it's first year and has plans to grow past middle school. Thanks.

All thoughts welcomed.
