You can switch but you're given a limited number of schools to pick from - you cannot transfer to just any school. There is information on the MCPS web site ... I think maybe under Title I or transferring schools. I can't remember.

I am not sure what is the trigger that allows you to swtich but you are given a certain selection to choose from (mosly ones that are not over crowded already)

Can you switch schools if your local schools fails to meet AYP two years in a row? And if so, are you limited to area schools (although most of these haven't met AYP either) or can you pick any school that has met AYP? Can't find anything about this on the MCPS site, but I heard from a MCPS teacher that you can (although she didn't know the specifics).
