I admire you ladies who do this solo, truly. I went through the IVF rollercoaster too and that plus a pregnancy is just f*&king exhausting.
OP I'm so happy for you, that's great. 2 is better than zero, just tell yourself that!
Also, the further along you get (my opinion) the less you need to worry about chromosome issues because your body would take care of that naturally anyway, and so as the days pass on, I think your odds just keep going down.
As far as your egg retrieval number - that too is impressive. You responded really well to meds. I'm 39 and never had results like that.

This is great - thank you for posting I justed turned 42 -- we did 3 IUIs in the fall with no success and are on day 8 of IVF cycle now. My AFC is about 16-20, with about 12 follicles growing at/near 10mm right now, so hopefully I will be able to report back good news

Then there is me...44 (yesterday) and single. TTC since 4O. 5 IUI's and 5 IVF's and cancelled cycles. 2 clinics. I am envious, OP.

Eek I should not have put happy ending up there! Don't want to jinx myself (knocking wood now) because I am still far from a full happy ending. But a happy ending in that conception happened, is what I meant.

Me: Single, no recent history of trying and no evidence from that of fertility situation, 39.75 at time of beginning this journey, FSH of 7.4 (I think), AFC always excellent (first few checks were in the mid- to upper- 20s), clear HSG, thyroid issue but regulated by meds.
Against common wisdom, from age 39.75 to 40.75, I had about 7 IUIs! I know! Ridiculous. I just couldn't help myself and was not ready to do IVF emotional and just kept hoping to get a good egg, since we figured egg quality was my issue. But nothing. Not a chemical pregnancy or anything. Never a positive. First 3 were unmedicated. Then 1 on Clomid. Then 3 on low levels of Follistim. Great reaction each time, lots of antral follicles and lots of action with those follicles. The primary thing that they had trouble with was getting just 2-3 mature follicles. Somehow we had almost mature follicles and if we let them really mature they were afraid that the next 6 would catch up and I'd be Octomom. I always told them be super conservative because I. Do. Not. Want. Multiples. So they were and the result was zippy.
Had promised myself that I would do everything to TTC until age 41. So when 41 was just 3 months away, I said ok on to IVF. Bought the multi-cycle pack at SG. First cycle not as rockstar of an AFC but still ok and, with 112 iu of Follistim and 1 vial of Menopur, I ended up having 19 eggs retrieved, of which only 12 were mature and 10 of those were fertilized via ICSI (frozen sperm). Of those 10, 4 did not make it and the other 6 became Grade AA or AB blasts. My RE had said I'll give you approval to transfer up to 3 on transfer day due to your lack of prior success and age, but I researched and did not feel comfy with that. I had gotten the multi-cycle in part to have an emotional backstop if the 1st cycle did not work but also to not have to put everything into this one. I did not want twins since I am just one person currently, but it seemed unheard of to just put in 1 embryo/blast. So I put in two.
Well pregnant with twins currently. The doctors said wow with that history of IUIs and then boom. Though I have no idea, my thinking now is that maybe my old eggs were a bit hardened and having trouble fertilizing and the ICSI solved that. Or maybe the IUIs were off in timing or were premature. As a sidenote, I am about 8 weeks pregnant with strong heart beats and good looking and sized sacs, but of course have not checked to see if there are chromosomal issues stemming from my old eggs. So this is the next hurdle. RE says great looking blasts and great heart beats etc. have nothing to do with if there are chromosomal problems. Am hoping not!
So while my story is not necessarily typical of those TTC, I thought this might be an uplifting story for some to hear. A year of looking like it wasn't going to happen and then boom it really happened. Might also give some the extra push they need to do IVF.
