My son is at YY in PK4, and I believe that most days they get two 30m recess periods. With the addition of the second PE teacher, I believe they are now getting PE up to 3x per week. Both the teacher and I noticed a huge improvement in DS's fidgety-ness since this started.

IT for PS3 has 20-30 min in am and equal amounts in the pm. Although by the time kids bundle up and use the potty and get outside (this and every school), it may be less.

It does indeed vary by school. We're transferring our child to Capital City in part because it has a full hour of recess, which he seems to really need.

I work in a charter school. We have 10-15 minutes of outside time a day.

I think that's typical for DCPS.

I visited our son's future DCPS (Barnard) which was not our first choice but it's what we got so far.

The woman at the tour said that there was approximately 30 minutes a day of outside play in the playground. That seemed like very little to me.

What is it like in other schools?

Thanks!
