We were offered a place too. I was very put off by the long hours and the academic focus even for three year olds. I decided that it wasn't for us. That said, I'm sure that the academic rigor and emphasis on discipline is exactly what some people look for. I didn't hear anything "bad" per se about the school, it just wasn't for us.

My understanding is that they originally planned to be a MS/HS prep school, with a rigorous academic load. (A great goal, no doubt.) Unfortunately, the kids they were getting at the MS level couldn't do the work they had in mind. Instead of watering down the curriculum, they decided to open an elementary school. That way, they could ensure they were educating their students up to the appropriate level, and by MS/HS could fulfill their mission.

I would love some response here, too. I did check the great schools site and what I saw was all excellent.

Please go visit and don't rely on greatschools.org.

I would seriously doubt if you get any responses on DCUM regarding DC Prep. It's not a school that DCUMers "chase". Try Greatschools.org--

I think a lot will depend on what you are looking for. FWIW, I've never heard anything bad about the school and it gets great test scores (much higher than the sought after charters here on DCUM). Definitely go visit the school to see for yourself and good Luck!

We got a spot in the PS3 program at DC Prep. Can anyone tell me if this is a good charter, particularly for the early grades?
