The Chesterbrook AAP program has an excellent reputation. I know at Haycock they say they don't get too many students from Chesterbrook because their LLIV program is so good.

My oldest DS is in the AAP program at Chesterbrook (4th grade). We love it, and opted for Chesterbrook over Haycock because we wanted a smaller school setting. I've been thrilled with the teachers and program over the past two years.

I have a dd in AAP at Haycock. Every year, there are 1 or 2 new kids in her class who transferred over from LLIV at Chesterbrook.

How does it work at Chesterbrook? Are kids pulled out of their "normal" class to do the academic subjects? Or are they with the same group of kids all day and then join others for the specialty classes? I'm not sure how a local center works - clearly!

Both my kids attended Chesterbrook from K thru 2nd grade. We then switched to Haycock for two reasons: 1) the Chesterbrook AAP program was not fully functional at the time, and 2) most of their peers were going to Haycock.

Academically, I did not find the Haycock program stimulating or challenging. Throughout their 4 years there, I find myself questioning the merit and effectiveness of the program. But when my kids started middle school at Longfellow, I noticed a difference. They (and most of their Haycock peers) seemed to be better prepared, compared to their Chesterbrook peers, academically in some of the honor classes, especially math.

Furthermore, if you child is interested in math and science, it might interest you to know that in seems that a majority of Longfellow students who end up at TJ came from Haycock.

We are moving to the Chesterbrook neighborhood for next year, and my daughter will be in the 3rd grade AAP program. Trying to decide if she should go to the local program at Chesterbrook, where my other children will be (they are younger and less likely to be in the AAP), or send her to the center program at Haycock. Would love to hear anyone's advice.
Also, the orientation at Haycock is on May 10th and I can't find any info about one at Chesterbrook (will have to call tomorrow). Is it possible that they have the orientation on the 10th and then you have to give a decision by the next day? It seems like a pretty crazy schedule. I know they have to start making class plans, but still...
Thanks.

This is just a guess, but even if you say yes to the AAP center program and before the school year starts you decide that you want to send your child to the base school, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do that. I don't think the opposite is true though. So if you are unsure after you attend the orientation on the 10th, I'd just say yes to the center by the 11th, and if you change your mind later I doubt they'd try to force you to the center instead of your base school.
