PP here with the DC with the seemingly anomalous WISC score. The way this was explained to be the WISC administrator is that CogATs and NNATs are both slanted a bit to a child with strong non-verbal capabilities.

To this end, our DC scored a 133 on Perceptual reasoning rating -- very superior in three out of five subtests -- but only 112 on verbal (just high average). Within that DC, did well in a couple of areas - vocabulary (superior) and information (very superior) - but just average in comprehension. DC also scored average (just 100) on processing speed with one low average (Coding). Working memory was high average.

The processing speed index - and also the comprehension issue - are what look like red flags to me that something is quite right. This is proving to be a very interesting journey.

NNAT 117
CogAt 134 (verbal 138)
GBRS unknown but probably low.

Did WISC two weeks ago, FSIQ 128 with Verbal at 136.
Issues with Working Memory/processing speed--?ADHD--going through full workup.

Plan to appeal with WISC.

Not surprising. Cogat is not an iq test. Some of the words used on the cogat can be hit or miss for kids. That's why they do the Nnat. It takes achievement out of the equation.

No plans to appeal. WISC was only 121 and highlighted some big deficits that may be red flags for learning issues. Will be exploring this further.

Wow those are very solid scores. Regardless of "learning issues" you have a very bright child.

+1. tho NNAT/CogAT of 131 vs WISC 121 surprises me.

NNAT: 125
CogAT: 129
GBRS: unknown

Disappointed but DD is ecstatic because this means she doesn't have to switch school. She loves her school very much so no plan to appeal.

Thank you PP 20:25

We think DC is bright, funny, and very happy. And we are very lucky.

Do not plan to appeal, was told really need 127/128 to be "in the zone," higher GBRS, and level III appropriate learning level

From my experience, there are kids with lower scores than that, but they have much higher GBRS that were admitted. My DD, for example (this was a few years ago).

From my experience, 128-132 and 12 is kind of the cut off. Higher GBRS will offset lower test scores, and higher test scores will offset lower GBRS. I think for each point below 12 on the GBRS you need to be 5-8 points higher on the tests.

With that said, I have also seen that WISC of 128 will be admitted regardless of the GBRS.

Thanks for posting this, that will be good to know as a benchmark for what generally gets in on the first round. Having said that, I know someone who got her child in last year with lower test scores than that and I believe only a 9 GBRS. If you think your base school won't meet your child's needs and that he/she would do well in the AAP program, I would do the WISC and see what happens. If you think his/her needs will be met at your base school then maybe the WISC is not worth it.

14:44 - are you automatically placed in level 3 aap? Or do you still have to apply for that separately?

What were your scores? And didn't you take the tests 30 years ago?

What were your scores if not eligible? Do you plan to appeal?
