My daughter's allergist said that it would take years.

Never. It is like nuclear waste.

I researched this a few years ago when we also were looking at a house with a cat. Loved the house, but sadly, everything I read said it takes a minimum of three years to clear out the cat dander from the house. And even then, it could still be an issue. We just don't even consider houses that cats have lived in.

Talk to your allergist. Ripping out the carpet and letting the house air out for a bit would do it for most people.

Very, very difficult. It took 3 years for me to be able to stay overnight at my in-laws house after their cat died. And they had wood floors and got new furniture in the main living space.

You will also need to replace or professionally clean any window treatments/drapes in the house.

Just toured a house that I may want to buy. But the Persian cat had me pretty allergic withing 10 minutes. The downstairs is wood and tile, upstairs is carpet. I assume we'd rip out the carpet and get the air vents blown out. Would that do the trick or would I be suffering for years? Anybody with experience?
