How do teachers contribute to the screening process?
Teachers may refer students for advanced academic services by completing and submitting the AAP (Level IV) Referral Form. In addition, classroom teachers are members of the Local Screening Committee. The Local Screening Committee reviews student work samples, anecdotal evidence of students' academic potential, and teacher input in order to complete the Gifted Behaviors Rating Scale with Commentary (GBRSw/C).

http://www.fcps.edu/is/aap/packet/Fillable_AAPGBRSwithCommentary.pdf

To complete the GBRSw/C, students are rated in four areas: exceptional ability to learn, exceptional application of knowledge, exceptional creative/productive thinking, and exceptional motivation to succeed. In the commentary portion of the GBRSw/C, teachers and educational specialists provide relevant anecdotal information that supports the rating scale.

Please note that because input from FCPS staff is included in the GBRS w/Commentary, recommendations from individual FCPS teachers will not be accepted.

GMU does a great job administering the WISC. The grad students are very well trained, and explained the results in great detail.

What was his GBRS? My son too got rejected because the teacher gave him a GBRS of 6 (we were highly disappointed), could not understand as he is in AAP maths already in 3rd grade , his COGAT was 134 and NNAT 160. Gets O's and G's for the report. Which Psychologist are using?

My son was in pool for the 2nd grade pool, but did not get in due to a GBRS of 9 (test scores were well above the criteria 130-148 range for CogAt, do not remember Naglieri #). The following year, his 3rd grade teacher recommended we parent refer (for AAP placement for 4th). We did a parent referral (no new WISC test scores, just new GBRS from 3rd gr. teacher, and work samples, etc.), and he got in first round started AAP in 4th and has been doing great academically in AAP. Chimed in just to reassure you that a child can place into AAP in 4th and do very well, despite missing that first AAP year.
