Re: blood sugar levels
If you have stable blood sugar, good for you. Not everyone does. I made the mistake of serving cake and punch. A friend had to ask for a piece of cheese. Now I am that person who can't go long without protein.

Cake, drinks, maybe some mini pretzels and some fruit.

2-3.30 (Or even 2-4) cake and drinks are enough.

if it was 4-6 i'd say serve food of some sort; but I usually eat at 6.

I"m planning just cake and drinks for the kids, though probably should have something to offer for the parents (5 year olds, but I didnt specify drop off, so I'm assuming they'll stay)

for 2 - 330 am I safe just serving cake and drinks?

Yes! For Chrissakes People! Stop serving pizza all the time! Kids don't need to eat another meal at 3:30/4! And you wonder why we are all obese.

Ditto! Regardless of party time, it's pizza and cake. I suppose I probably wouldn't do it for a party before 10am, but then again, I'm very unlikely to throw a party before 10am.

i don't care a hoot about blood sugar levels, but i come from a culture and family where we love to serve food food food.

a 4 pm-6pm party would entail
cake
drinks
adult drinks
hummus platter
feta-spinach triangles (made from scratch)
mini chicken sandwiches
fruit
a bread or cake for adults
brownies
mini cheesecakes
pasta salad
and at least 2 other hot appetizer-y things. would depend on what my mother felt like making. most likely samosas

I dont think you need anything other than cake and drinks (for kids and adults) - but i dont think i'm as high maintaince as some DCUM moms who might want to chime in about needing a healthy snack to help balance mid-afternoon blood sugar levels

It runs for 4-6?

I'd serve something pretty close to a light dinner. Sandwiches, veggie crudites, fruit slices, that sort of thing, and then cake and ice cream and *zip!* out da door or chroo da window!

Our party starts at 3:30 this weekend. At the end of the activity, I'm serving pizza, carrots and apples to the kids, wine and cheese to the grown ups who choose to attend (all old enough for drop off, but most stay because we are friends) and cake for all.
