I understand why the talks could be during the day, but why before the child gets an acceptance letter? I think I'd tailor my questions differently depending on whether I knew my child was center eligible or not. Just based on the date I think I'd think negatively about a Local Level IV program. Also, why aren't children invited to both the local level IV and the Center discussions with full knowlege of their acceptance? It would be nice for them to be knowlegeable so they can make the right decision for themselves.

This is correct. And I wanted to add that the AAP center orientations are only for those kids who are level IV eligible and are assigned to that center. At our AAP orientation, we had to sign in at a welcome table and they had pre-printed name tags for the kids they were expecting. The orientation is not for those who are just looking for info or those who were found ineligible and are appealing.

i think most schools have the orientation during the day so the KIDS can see what the school is like. At the one we went to the kids gave tours around the school.

At the local level IV meetings I have attended, there have been many parents attending (not with their kids as the meeting was during the school day) and the principal and the AART discussed what was offered in local level IV at the school. There was also (slight) mention of Level II and Level III services. Then parents were provided a referral packet for level II, III or IV services, with completed forms due pretty quickly for the May screening process.

It's probably scheduled so early as to be before the center's orientation. Local level IV schools like to retain as many students as possible.

Canterbury Woods has their AAP center orientation scheduled for May 8th.

Should add -- since the OP indicated "One local level IV orientation is next Wed morning." -- historically the local level IV meetings have been before the Center AAP orientations. That way parents could attend the local level IV meetings prior to attending the Center orientation.

Since local level IV does not comprise just Center-eligible students, it tends to be a more widely attended meeting. If your child was in the 2nd grade pool and your base school offers local level IV, chances are very high that local level IV would be an option for your child. So it makes sense to attend such a meeting.

If you happen to learn that your child is Center-eligible, then you can attend the AAP Center orientation and make a decision between both options.

Which school is this?
A Wednesday morning is an awkward time for an orientation. When my dd entered the center it was in the evening.

One local level IV orientation is next Wed morning. I guess letters may go out sooner than this Fri? Otherwise, how are parents supposed to plan to attend the orientation?
