Does anyone here tip at Panera bread?

I will not tip anymore.

Fair point. Corner Bakery delivers food to the table as well and I don't tip there.

What I don't get is this: if you tip at the register when you pay for your food, do the servers get the tip?

I do 10% at Nando's. The servers really don't do anything except bring the food to the table. You even get your own silverware, napkins, drinks, etc.

I like the food there. And I don't mind the counter approach - kind of goes with the "good food fast" concept in so many places now.

I do 15%. I tip 25% for normal restaurants and nothing at a place like Teaism. There are no waiters at Nando's, only bussers. Why should I tip as if I were getting waiter service if I am not? If set up properly, the bussers should be able to handle many more tables than a waiter, and I have to keep getting up and waiting in line.

Ugh, I hate hate hate the set up at Nando's - so stupid and it leaves your with this issue! I do like the food though but wish they would just move to a traditional service model.

Same goes for Vapiano's.

I prefer to tip at the end of the meal, not before
The only thing the waitress does is bring you your food and then come later and ask if you are happy?
Why I do not know, because it not possible to order anything more without going to the counter yourself

Food is good, but not that pricey, so even 20% does not come to much, but with the waitress doing nothing, what is appropriate?

nothing- the food and service are terrible.

9:17 -- hello! Not South African, but lived there for awhile. Loved Nandos -- loved getting served on real plates (do they use real plates here? I haven't been.)

OP, honestly. These people are working at Nando's -- and not for kicks. Tip 20% -- you'll never miss the $1-$2.

Too funny.

As a S. African I was happy to see Nando's come to DC, but shocked to see it treated as something any fancier than McDonald's. This is staple fast food in SA and cheap.
