Hi - I opened up the May Quicknotes and saw the below article and thought of this thread. I don't know if you are still looking, but thought I would post this.

Registration Open for Prekindergarten/Head Start
Registration for 2012-2013 MCPS prekindergarten or Head Start classes has begun. Children must be four years old by Sept. 1, 2012, and families must be income-eligible to apply.
Walk-in applications are accepted Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Rocking Horse Road Center, 4910 Macon Road, Room 141 in Rockville. Parents can also register their children at other locations. Here is a list of locations, with dates and times.

Some high schools in MCPS have preschools where high school students learn to be teachers. I don't know about Rockville, but BCC has one.

This is the same that was linked above. $35,000 for a family of 3. The Head Start income is even less than that.

There are programs for 4 year olds, but they are income based.

That is for Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

To qualify for an MCPS pre K program, you would have to first qualify for free lunch by meeting severe income requirements. For a family of 3, it's currently under $35,000. You could also qualify if your child has a disability and needs special services. Here's the information for Head Start/Pre K in MoCo:

If cost is a factor, I know there is a pre-K program at Wootton HS.

No, we are thinking ahead-maybe 2-3 years from now, not for right now.

I will call MCPS, thank you!

If you child is just over a year, I think you are thinking about daycare right? At what age? There are lower cost programs and you might qualify for some assistance.

There are other programs in MCPS where the income does not have to be as limited as Head Start. I would call the MCPS office and ask about the programs and get requirements for those other programs to see if you qualify, or otherwise, start saving your money for private preschool.

Dear Mommies and Daddies,

We have a 1 y. 4 m. old daughter who is cared for by her Daddy who works from home. We are starting to think about public pre-k for her. Is there such a thing in Montgomery County? Any advice is welcome!

Thank you!
