Subject: How many activities do your kids do during the school year?
12 yo, one activity, once a week.
8 yo, three activities (two of them 2x/week).
They are VERY different kids. 12yo needs her downtime and hates being overscheduled. 8yo wants to be busy all the time and will complain if he has nothing to do and no one to play with. Older DC also has significantly more homework.

My kid did the following:
Before age 4: just daycare
PK:daycare plus soccer 1 day a week fall/spring
K and 1st: school (no aftercare), soccer 1 day a week fall/spring, plus one other activity one day a week (tried lots of different things)
2-4th: school, aftercare, soccer 1 game 1 practice fall/spring, skiing 1 day/week in the winter, plus Tae Kwon Do twice a week year round.
5th: school, aftercare, soccer 1 game 1 practice fall/spring and 1 game 0 practice in the winter, skiing 1 day/week in the winter, school play fall and spring
6th: school, (no aftercare) soccer 1 game 1 practice fall/spring, and 1 game 0 practice in the winter, skiing 1 day/week in the winter, school play in the spring
7th: school, chamber chorus, 1 day a week all year, travel sport in the fall (3 practices, 1 game), soccer 1 game 0 practice in the winter, 1 game 1 practice in the spring, skiing 2 days/week in the winter, school play fall and spring.
I should note that my kid learned to swim very well very early, otherwise we would have done swimming lessons.

As they get older and sports becomes more competitive some self selection occurs because some sports are difficult to do at the same time. For one kid we do soccer year round (which meant no lacrosse because it is hard to do both), high school sports all 3 seasons, scouts plus random activities here and there. Did music through middle school but it wasn't a passion. Did tae Kwon do through black belt level. Did Sunday school through confirmation.
After about age 8 our kids had such divergent interests that trying to get them to even go to the same summer camps was a challenge.

Yeah, good luck with that. My three go in all different directions. None in the same school and none in the same activities.

For us swimming and tennis is year round. Soccer fall and spring. Kids are still young so they are not into races or competitions yet. DD loves everything but can't do it all. DD is 6. Our DS is 3, going to navigate him the same sports to make it easier on me driving around, Ha- son will probably choose different sports!
